The title says it all! I am off to Arts Wells and have more tour dates coming up so I hope to see some smiling faces on the road! It has been far too long so I will be back with more riveting updates in a week or so!

Just a quick note before I run out the door to a gig.

I am very privileged to play with Adrian St. Louis, Brandon Hoffman, and Leathan Milne. The three are very talented songwriters and instrumentalists who, besides playing with me, work together in the Vancouver based Afrobeat band “Miami Device.”  Besides having one of the greatest names in music, they also put on a fantastic live show and have just released a new full length album entitled, “Monopoly.”

Afrobeat is a musical genre that was largely formed by Fela Kuti in the 1970s.  Together, Fela and drummer/composer Tony Allen created music consisting of syncopated drum beats, staccato guitar picking, funky bass lines, and stupid catchy horn lines.  The music contains social and political messages and Fela used songs as way to speak out against the Nigerian government who imprisoned him on more than one occasion. To learn more about Fela, who has influenced musicians from Vampire Weekend to Paul Simon, check out this film, “Music Is The Weapon.”

Tonight I will be playing guitar with Miami Device for the “In The House Festival” here in Vancouver.

Check out this link for a little taste of Miami Device playing the Rickshaw Theatre.

No shows booked at the moment.
